Tassajara Zen Mountain Center

Tassajara Zen Mountain Center

Summer of 2011, I stayed at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in central California. It was brutal. Also, beautiful. The kaisando (founder’s room, shown in the picture) was one of my favorite spots. No nails were used to construct it — just expertly measured beams. Anyone can stay at Tassajara indefinitely by working (e.g. in the kitchens) and following the meditation schedule. It is beautiful, and the architecture is inspiring. Here is a photo tour: http://www.flickr.com/photos/surharper/sets/72157600290243490/
