Transgenic Art – Eduardo Kac

I received this article last summer in one of SAIC’s newsletters in my mail. It’s been on my mind ever since.

This kind of blending between art / life / science is absolutely nuts and I love every second of it.

Eduardo Kac is responsible for:

  • Inserting jellyfish dna into a live bunny that now glows
  • creating a bacteria with text from the Bible encoded into their DNA via morose code, which can be mutated by a remote audience online.
  • Becoming the first human to implant a microchip in his body in Time Capsule (1997) when he injected an RFID chip into his leg live on television and on the Internet and allowed online participants to retrieve its digital content.
